My Summer Photo Shoot

Photo shoots are a lot of fun and in the promotions and marketing industry which I’m in, they are essential to getting more work and more notice for your brand.
This was my Summer shoot with the lovely and talented Sarah Churcher of Sarah Churcher Photography.

Sarah and I had some ideas for a summer photoshoot and with our powers combined, we came up with some great stuff.

These are Sarah’s favourites that she has chosen of me and as the professional, I take her word.

Choosing location, style and theme can be hard, so with a talented professional by your side, it makes things a whole lot easier. She also sees things in a way I never would have.

I’m so happy with this particular part of the shoot through the long grass as it was Sarah’s idea. The soft light, the grass as a feature and me getting to show off my writing prowess. It all worked so well in the moment.

We did this shoot at Port Melbourne which has a great range of backdrops and scenes for a photoshoot and with the wind up that day, we were lucky to create some magic.

It’s not Awkward – It’s Awesome!

Justine “JMac” McInerney has been performing in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in her show “Proactively Awkward”. I was delighted and honoured to attend on her opening night and it was AWESOME!

Yes it was awkward. Yes I will never look at my dear friend Justine in the same light, but damn it was funny.

This is Justine’s debut show and the girl rocked it! To stand up for an hour and make a room full of people laugh is no easy task, but this woman looks as though she’s been doing it all her life.

Great use of video, live music, images and sound effects-  this show had a bit of everything. Definitely for a more mature… or immature audience… with lots of profanity and inappropriate themes – though that’s what makes it awesomely awkward.

Audience participation was welcomed and be prepared to be picked on if you are in the front two rows – of course that’s where I sat.

JMac has just 3 shows to go.

Happy Easter from Jetstar

Hope everyone had a very Happy Easter!

I had a rather different Easter this year. Very minimal chocolate, not with my family and only over ate once. I instead was working with Jetstar in Melbourne Airport on Saturday and Sunday.

I was dressed as one of the most recognised characters in the world – especially at this time of year. The Easter Bunny.

Some were filled with joy.

Some were frightened half to death. (in this case me, terrified of a 3 yr old who was more than delighted to be meething the big bunny).

And others like this very polite young man, were extremely Thankful. “Thank you Mr. Bunny for my chocolate this morning.”

Thanks JetStar and my fave agency Mash Marketing Australia for giving me this great job at such a fun and festive time of year. Warmed my heart to give the travellers a nice send off or welcome home.

“Live your life like a traveller.”

Bike N’ Blend – You gotta work for your lunch!

Last month I was at the Bay Bike Ride event in Melbourne wth 1000′s of Bike enthusiasts and brands representing in the cycle industry. But one bike really stood out to me and I just loved the healthy living it promotes. Bike N’ Blend. Ride your bike, with blender attached, until your smoothie is mixed!

What a cool concept! The novelty factor was overwhelming and the smoothies were deliciouos. The rider is left with a sense of pride after mixing up their own healthy, refreshing drink. I had a banana smoothie with cinnamon – delicious and filling, meaning I didn’t need anything else for lunch, plus it had protein powder in it.

Bike N’ Blend have no fixed location (funny that, being on bikes) so they set up at festivals and events all over Victoria. You can hire them to come to your fete, party, festival or event and they can set up quickly and easily to make their wonderful drinks.

Check out the pics of me working hard for my lunch! I couldn’t stop laughing and you really have to pedal hard. It’s such a great concept. Exercise and healthy living.

MELBOURNE – THIS IS YOUR TIME

Melbourne, you are my home and I have sadly neglected you. I’ve been living here 5 months and I promised to write every day for the first month and share your wonderful treasures with the world- possibly wrote 5, epic fail.

View of Melbourne from St Kilda Pier

I was then all consumed by my journey to Climb Kilimanjaro. Training, working and focusing all my attention on that enormous challenge. I had little to no time to see or do anything else.

Me with Kili as my crowning glory

It’s now your time. Mountain conquered, mind open and a slower pace of life is coming. Giving me more time to discover and explore your intricate and intriguing ways. Melbourne is somewhere you need to take the time out to engage with  to see the real beauty and I cannot wait.

Tutankhamun exhibition at the Melbourne Museum

Expect many more Top 5 blogs of Cafes, bars, shops and areas that I have explored. I will also be sharing my wish lists of things to do and see.

Please send me suggestions, ideas and hot tips on what’s best of Melbourne.

I do enjoy my Weekend Notes emails and have got lots of ideas from here, but I also think it’s great to hear it from a friend.

Melbourne here I come!

If 1000 Steps resembles Kili, I’m in deep trouble!

We finally got to the Dandenong Ranges and managed to do the 1000 steps/ Kokoda /memorial trail . And in a way… I wish we didn’t!! If this trail resembles Mt Kilimanjaro at all, I’m in deep trouble!

Doing this steep ascent in the wet and lush rainforest made me realize how unprepared and unfit I am.  Panic set in as I climbed those steps and puffed and panted my way along. Honestly, I felt exhausted after maybe 10 minutes of  walking. My breathing was bad, my head felt light and I felt utterly useless. Shame and sadness set in too at my state- and I really let my mind get the better of me.

As I stopped and collected myself, I felt close to tears. This was my idea. The Mountain climb, the practice walk, the whole shooting match. And here I am, puffed out and wanting to turn back. I really felt as If I couldn’t do it and maybe I should turn back. Instead of re-setting the pace, taking my time, I just felt like I’d let down the group and I wasn’t living up to expectation.

In reality, there was no shame to be had. It’s a touch walk. Especially on your first go and it really is a tough track. I needed to set the pace that suited me, take my time and relax. The others I went with had no expectations of me, they weren’t judging me, it was all in my mind. This was a big warning and message for Kili -  walk to the beat of my own drum. Do what’s right for me. And my stubborn determination and pride will get me there in the end, just as it did on Saturday.

One Tree Hill Picnic Ground

The walk is actually beautiful. I suggest on your first time, take it easy, read the signs along the way, look at the lovely flora and rainforest like landscape that surrounds you. Set your own pace, allow lots of time, and enjoy this beautiful region.

We reached the top in 25 mins-or possibly less, which was really quite quick. We then walked to One Tree Hill picnic ground and took a breather- We were all surprised at how quick It was. We were expecting an 8km track and quite a long day of walking. None of us were hungry really so after a few light snacks, we headed back down. We all opted for the hill instead of the steps.

The hill is a 3.1km path back down, again with some lovely views and beautiful Australian flora all around you. But again, it felt quite quick. We were done with the whole thing within an hour.

The best tip for training at 1000 steps is do it twice! Set your own pace, and listen to your body.

A lovely day out in this area and I’m glad I went – A wake up call and a good bit of exercise for a Saturday.

I will be taking on my biggest Adventure yet, Climbing Kilimanjaro for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW!  I will Climb Kilimanjaro in honour of my Grandpa who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2008. I was in Africa when I found out and I said at the time I would one day do this for him, in his memory! We are raising money for Alzheimer’s Australia NSW to raise awareness and the necessary funds for prevention of the disease that affects so many. Dementia is the third leading cause of death in Australia, after heart disease and stroke. We must prevent and find a cure as it’s not a normal part of aging, and does affect 100,000’s of Australians.

KILI COUNTDOWN – 10 Days to go

Albert Park is my favourite walk

(Walk took place on July 19th 2011, 53 days before the Mt Kili Climb)

Training is a breeze when your practice walks take you to the beautiful Albert Park. The pictures speak louder than words! How lucky am I to have experienced such a beautiful dya and such a beautiful atmosphere as I powered around this park.

The swans were out to play.

The sun was shining.

The city acted as a beautiful backdrop and contrast to the natural setting.

The lake was sparkling.

This may just be my new favourite training walk. I did 2 hours from door to door, which included a lap of the lake and a few laps of the various sports grounds. The great thing also is that it’s a dirt track and there is lots of grass so that I can vary my training and experience different terrains.

Albert Park is just 10 minutes from Melbourne City. It’s got this amazing lake, tennis courts, AFL grounds, cafes, restaurants, a rowing club, the very modern sports and swimming complex and the bbq and park areas. You can get lost in this enormous park and be spoiled for activities for an entire week!
